Something dear to us all is the wonderful food that you can experience on Crete and Greece generally. On this page we list some recommendations for some cookery books in particular Cretan recipes!
Something slightly different are the two books on the right, the first was put together in the 1970’s so contains older recipes, the second on the far right is a collection of recipes for fasting, so is a collection of meat free recipes designed for Lent! The book below right has been written especially for the American market by the chef at a leading Greek restaurant ! It does deserve a place on this page because it gives alternative ingredients more readily available in the USA than the ones traditionally used.
One thing that many cook books dwell on is the fact that the Cretan and Greek diets are healthy. Sadly this is not quite so true these days and wherever you go you can find ‘chips with everything’!
We have not been able to find a book dealing solely with Greek wine which is much more varied than the ‘Bull’s Blood’ and ‘Domestica’ era in the 60’s! Crete itself produces some very acceptable wines from local vineyards within easy reach of Villa Ralfa!
