Photos above - The Lion Fountain in all its glory, the cable drum has now been taken away! Bits of this are invariable missing as they are taken away for restoration, but when it is up and running it is quite effective. Just around the corner is a small park dedicated to El Greco, a nice shady spot on a hot sunny day. There are rose bushes and shrubs underplanted under mulberries, although they could do with some TLC, and pruning with secateurs rather than a chainsaw, which was being used the day I took the photo!
The Easter fireworks represent the burning of Judus Escariot, and take place at midnight after the distribution of the ‘Holy Light’ at the small church down by the harbour, it makes quite a pretty sight as everyone walks back from the church with their candles. The idea is that you take it home and make a ‘smoke’ cross on the front door lintel to bring good luck in the coming year.
