At Villa Ralfa we understand that all of our guests are different so it is pleases us to be able to say that there are many different reasons for the gay and lesbian traveller to visit Crete!

Holidays and vacations mean many different things to different people and at Villa Ralfa we have ourselves travelled around various parts of the island (as well as the World!) so we have first hand experience of many of the attractions and how long it will take you to get there and so on.

For some, holidays mean lazing on the beach taking the occasional dip into the clear turquoise Mediterranean sea, for others visiting ruins and archaeology sites of interest is more important. Some even find that eating and drinking are pleasant enough pursuits!

Crete being the largest of the Greek Islands offers opportunities for all these and other diversions as well. We admit that Crete is not renowned for its gay and lesbian club scene, but every year we get many gay and lesbian tourists who come not just for nightlife but to enjoy an island steeped in history and legend as well as sunshine!

And if it is nightlife that you want then we can point you to bars sedate, (but nonetheless interesting!), and bars noisy (and sometimes very interesting).

Because there are several things of interest we have put a menu to the left with a selection of ‘activities’, some not so active, these links open in new windows so you will need to have pop-ups enabled on your browser.
Background reading and a guide book can help you get the best out of your time on Crete and below we have selected some items from Amazon.com which we think are the most useful. If you are in the UK then you will probably need to use Amazon.co.uk, and you can find the same volumes by using the search box below left, for the same titles.
No visit to Crete is complete unless you have read at least one of Kazantakis’s books!
Controversial when first published, Mary Renault’s novels are still worth reading for their treatment of Cretan mythology.
