Naturally with beautiful weather and warm seas, water sports are
a popular pastime on Crete, especially during the summer.
Within easy reach of Villa Ralfa, are two diving schools, one on the beach
at Anisarras, and the other near the Creta Maris Hotel, both have regular
lessons from beginners upwards, and will take you out into the bays to test
your skills. For those who prefer to stay on the surface, snorkelling can be
rewarding as the water is clear and not too deep. And of course there are
all the normal pursuits you would expect to find associated with water, such
as water skiing, parascending, windsurfing and just generally getting wet!
What is less well known is that there other opportunities for active sports,
including cycling, walking, hiking, rock climbing, para gliding, golf, and
caving. as well as pony/donkey trekking. On the links page you will find
a link to Odysseia Stables at Avdou, as well as a link to one of the
diving schools.
There is also a choice of water parks within easy reach of Villa Ralfa. At the east end of Port
Hersonissos is Starbeach with various water slides and pools, you can also water ski from here
(and bungy jump!). Inland from us is Aqaplus water park, next door to the Crete Golf Course, and
nearer to Iraklio is Anopolis which also has a water park.
You will not find many football pitches around, but if you only
want to watch then many bars have big screen TV’s and show
many of the main matches. The Sports Cafe in Koutoulouyfari
has multiple screen TV and satellite, closer to home Margo’s
in Old Hersonissos also has two screens, so there is no reason
for you to miss that all important match!
For the smaller members of the family there is also Kriti Farm
as Potamies, a short drive inland. Here you can go for a trek
on a donkey of horse, There are also various farmyard animals
to be patted and stroked. They also do a very good BBQ
lunch!
